MUD SYSTEMS WITH FINE GRADE BARITE

Fine-grade barite is mostly used to prepare water-based and oil-based drilling fluids characterized with high density and low rheological properties.  As a rule, a mud system shall have improved structural properties in order to provide appropriate sedimentation stability for heavy-weight mud systems.  The sizes of colloidal particles of fine grade weighting agent may significantly reduce rate of sedimentation, thus creating conditions for the use of mud compositions with lower rheological properties.

MICRO-BARITE applications

  • reduction of Equivalent Circulating Densities when drilling small size holes, especially in oil based fluids
  • increase of sedimentation stability in water-based and oil-based mud systems
  • ability to design mud systems to drill exploratory wells in abnormally high formation pressure conditions through the optimization of rheological properties
  • facilitation of completion operations due to the use of bottom-hole strainers
  • improved performance of mud cleaning equipment
  • rectification of drawbacks typical for liquid concentrate of fine-grade weighting agent
